TY - Data T1 - Basin90m, a new global drainage basin dataset A1 - None DO - 10.5880/GFZ.4.6.2023.004 PY - 2024 DA - 2024-11-28 PB - National Cryosphere Desert Data Center AB - The global dataset of current drainage system shapes has relatively low spatial resolution. This dataset uses a 90 meter resolution digital elevation model (DEM) to calculate watershed basins larger than 50 square kilometers worldwide, resulting in a new dataset (Basin90m) with a total of 667629 watershed basins. For each watershed, extract the spatial distribution of the longest river channel and the meandering nature of the river, and calculate the basic geometric parameters of the watershed basin, such as area, length, width, aspect ratio, slope, and elevation. Basin90m consists of vector files (ESRI Shapefile format) containing global basin and river channels. The file sizes for watershed and river data are 7.8 GB and 2.5 GB, respectively. All calculations are automatically performed using MATLAB scripts. The first part includes global watersheds with an area greater than 50 km ², and the data format is ESRI Shapefile. The 8 indicators of the drainage system are stored in the attribute table of the basin shapefile. The 'Basins' folder contains 6 subfolders, each representing a continent, and each continent's subfolders contain all the watersheds in that continent, classified in different river orders. For example, the "South America" subfolders contain 9 shapefile files corresponding to flow order 1-9. The name of the shapefile file includes its continent and river sequence information. For example, 'South_ Americas Basin 8. shp' represents all watersheds in South America with a flow sequence of 8. The second part of the Basin90m data consists of major rivers worldwide. The longest river in each watershed is stored in a folder named 'Rivers'. The internal structure of this folder is the same as the 'Basins' folder.
